Abstract
125,502. Sturgeon, R. A. April 16, 1918. Density separators; multi-stage separators.-- Precipitants, co-agulants, or the like are added to the material under treatment in a multi-stage separator before, during, and/or after each stage. The hollow spindle B carrying the drum A is driven through gearing and outside it, is arranged the hollow tube E carrying the closing piston E' and a series of disks D<1>, D<2>; the disks D<2> are in contact with the drum, and have openings near the axis, and the disks D<1> do not meet the drum. The liquid under treatment enters from the tank G, through the outlet G' and the chamber C on the top of the drum and passes successively outwardly and inwardly through the drum to the receiving channel J. Reagents from the tank P pass down the tubular shaft B by means of channels in the rod B<2> to openings M in the sleeve B at each or any stage. The sleeve E, disk E<1> and disks D<1>, D<2> are movable axially from the drum to permit washing the solids from the drum; the washing liquid escapes from outlets N which are normally closed by the disk E<1>.
