Abstract
1,254,848. Coating; coating apparatus. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 17 Jan., 1969 [22 Jan., 1968], No. 3362/68. Headings B2E and B2L. An article 14 e.g. an assembly of water tubes and louvred fins is coated with a resin e.g. an acrylic, vinyl, polyurethane or epoxy resin by dipping the article into a bath 10 containing a solution of the resin in a solvent which will evaporate when the article is withdrawn from the bath and allow the resin to gel, gradually withdrawing the article from the bath at a controlled speed and causing air or other gas which may be heated, from slits 19, 20 in horizontally extending pipes 15, 16 to flow over the surface of the article 14 to accelerate evaporation of the solvent, the thickness of the resin coating being controlled by varying at least one of the following parameters: a) the speed at which the article is withdrawn from the bath, b) the flow rate of the air or gas c) the temperature of the air or gas d) the height above the bath at which the air or gas impinges on the article and e) the level of the solution in the bath. A hood may be provided over the full length of the pipes 15, 16 to contain the solvent saturated air and this may be connected to suction means to remove noxious gases and draw the air or gas over the article.
