Abstract
1525270 Cooling cables HYDRO-QUEBEC 2 Dec 1975 49443/75 Heading H2C Underground power cables 10 are enclosed in a chamber 12 which has a liquid, preferably water, distributed therealong; air is caused to flow along the chamber to assist evaporation of the liquid and carry the evaporated liquid from the chamber via an outlet thereby cooling the cables. Each cable has a layer 24 of jute or fibreglass which contacts water 26 in the bottom of the chamber. The vapour is removed by being blown by a pump to the atmosphere; alternatively a vacuum pump may be used to reduce the pressure in the enclosure, the vapour being exhausted to atmosphere through the pump. Arrangements for pumping liquid to the enclosure and removing liquid from the enclosure are described.
