Abstract

1,254,603. Folding apparatus. PITNEYBOWES Inc. 21 March, 1969 [26 March, 1968], No. 15083/69. Heading B8R. A buckle-folding machine comprises an upstanding framework 22, a sheet supply means 26, a roller assembly 24 for feeding sheets from the supply means to at least one buckle shoot 28, to thereby fold the sheets and discharge them from the forward end of the frame the supply means, the roller assembly and the buckle shoot(s) all being located rearwardly of the front wall of the frame. Sheets are separated from the top of a stack supported on removable table 54 by driven friction roller 38 and cooperating stationary roller 44 which is adjustable towards and away from roller 38 on U-shaped bracket 46 by screw adjuster 52. Separated sheets are guided around the periphery of roller 80 by arcuate plate 116 and a roller 140 which contacts the roller 80 through a slot in plate 116. The sheets are fed up to an adjustable stop in a first removable buckle shoot 28 and folded between rollers 92 and 74 and then up to an adjustable stop in a second removable buckle shoot 30 and folded between rollers 74 and 86. The folded sheets may be removed on belts 254. Shoots 28 and 30 may be reversed to deflect sheets through the rollers without folding. Guide 116 is movable to permit removal of jammed sheets. The sheet collection belts 254 may be replaced by some further sheet processing apparatus.
