Abstract

1305485 Delivering sheets; collating apparatus TEXTILMASCHINEN FABRIK SCHWENNINGEN GmbH 11 Sept 1970 [12 Sept 1969] 43684/70 Heading B8R [Also in Division B6] Piled sheets are bound together along one edge by punching one or more holes in the pile adjacent to the edge and introducing adhesive into the holes. The punches may be tubular and the adhesive fed through the punches. As shown, however, the tips of the punches 54, Fig. 1, enter an adhesive container 58 near the completion of a punching stroke, and adhesive is carried through the punched holes during the withdrawal of the punches. The container 58 may be continuously replenished by feeding a strip of glue and heating the container to liquefy the glue. To ensure that the melting of the glue takes place only in the container the inlet channel may be cooled by an air current which also assists the rapid setting of the glue. The punches 54 are mounted on a beam 36 carried by pivoted arms 38, 40 driven to cause operation of the punches. A plate 52 for clamping the edge of the pile of sheets is carried by the beam 36 so that it is movable against the action of springs 48, 50 towards the beam. The plate 52 and a supporting table 12 for the sheet pile have perforations for receiving the punches 54, the container 58 for adhesive being mounted below the table 12. After the withdrawal of the punches 54, the bound sheets are engaged at the edge opposite to the bound edge by a gripper device 51, 53, Fig. 4, which moves the pile away from the punches. Subsequently rollers 22, carried by arms 24 fixed to shafts 26 linked together, are moved downwardly so that in co-operation with driven rollers 18 extending into slots 20 in the table 12, they move the pile into a container 62 inclined so that the pile edges abut against walls 64, 66 of the container. The sheets forming the pile are forwarded separately from stacks by devices 104, Fig. 1, and brought together at discharge apparatus 102 which feeds the pile on to a table 70 inclined downwardly towards the table 12 and also inclined downwardly towards a side guide 92, Fig. 2, to align the side edges of the pile. A cross-bar 94 aligns the front edge of the pile, and is subsequently lowered beneath the table 70 to allow the pile to be moved forward, this being effected by the lowering of rollers 80 ... 84 co-operating with driven rollers 72 ... 76 projecting through slots in the table. The pile is forwarded to another cross-bar 96 and forwarding rollers, whilst another pile is assembled at the bar 94. When the bar 96 is retracted, the pile passes on to the table 12. The table is suspended in the main framing and is vibrated by a vibrator as each pile reaches an aligning bar 94, 96 to ensure proper alignment of the sheet edges.
