1433155 Feeding sheets MITA INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 8 Nov 1973 51783/73 Heading B8R [Also in Division G2] In an electrophotographic copying machine, copy sheets cut from a roll or separated from a pile or introduced manually are fed along a path b past an exposure zone 6, while signals a are carried on a support 30 past an exposure opening 52 in the machine frame. In operation, when a copy cycle is initiated, the sheet is fed forwards, in the case of a roll feed past a cutter 4, towards the zone 6, while the support 30 is moved to the right in a preparatory stroke to a position where the left hand end of an original is to the right of the opening. A device 60 is set at a position along the support according to the length of the original. When the leading end of the copy sheet reaches the zone 6, it actuates a switch (S1 whereupon the support 30 moves to the left, and when the device 60 actuates a further switch (56) the cutter is operated, the device 60 being set so that the length of the sheet cut off is the same as that of the original. At the end of the exposure, the support 30 is stopped by a detent mechanism (70, 76, Fig. 6, not shown) while, the switch (S1 having been released by the copy sheet, the support is again driven to the right. A light source 42 is illuminated only during exposure, when the switch (S1) is closed. The optical system comprises mirrors 45, 46, 48 and a lens 47. The optical mechanism is cooled by air drawn in by a fan 56 through openings at the top of the frame, while the heated air is conveyed to a fusing zone 8.
