Abstract

1424242 Projection printing apparatus having original document feeder XEROX CORP 17 Aug 1973 [29 Aug 1972] 39086/73 Heading G2A An apparatus comprises means for providing a flowing light image of a stationary original supported on a stationary viewing platen (20) in a first mode of operation and for providing a flowing light image of a moving original of a size greater than the physical dimensions of the platen (20) in a second mode of operation and means (49) for selecting between these modes, the flowing light image of the stationary original being provided by optical means for scanning the stationary original, see Fig. 2, the flowing light image of the moving original being provided by means for fixing the optical means at a given position and means for feeding the original over the platen past the fixed optical means, the feeding means (40) comprising a co-operating feeding member (142) positioned adjacent the platen (20) and a document feeder including a first feeding member (132) arranged to engage the co-operating feeding member to form a nip therebetween through which the originals are fed when the feeder is in an operative position over the platen and a second feeding member (135) arranged to engage the platen to form a nip therebetween through which the originals are fed when the feeder is in the operative position and means (49) to move the document feeder from a stored position off the platen to the operative position, whereby documents advanced over the platen by the feeder are within the viewing domain of the optical means. The scanning system may comprise a stationary lens system (21) positioned below the left hand margin of the platen (20) see Fig. 1, and a pair of co-operating movable scanning mirror (22, 23) carried on carriages (24, 25) respectively, which are slidably supported between a pair of rails (27, 28) and connected to optical drive-shaft (29) via a cable and drum arrangement (30). Manually moving feedroller support assembly (42) to the operative position physically closes the contacts of the large document mode switch causing actuation of the main machine drive motor and placing the machine in a single copy mode of operation. A paper feeding clutch (58) (not shown) inhibits the action of the paper feeder while the machine is being converted to the large document handling mode. Multiple copies of a single original can be reproduced.
