1,254,110. Luminescent materials. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 7 May, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 22512. Heading C4S. A phosphor for use in discharge lamps comprises an alkaline earth metal Y and/or La halosilicate activated by divalent and/or trivalent metal ions, e.g. trivalent Sb, Tb, Ce or Eu or divalent Sn, Pb and Mn or trivalent Ce and divalent Mn. The alkaline earth metals are Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba. The halogen is F. The phosphor is prepared by blending and firing in air or a reducing atmosphere Y or La silicate or SiO 2 with carbonates, fluoride, oxides and oxalate of the phosphor metals. The silicate is prepared by heating La 2 O 3 or Y 2 O 3 , SiO 2 and NH 4 F.
