Abstract

1,254,105. Drying in fluidized beds. ENGLISH CLAYS LOVERING POCHIN & CO. Ltd. 6 Feb., 1969 [6 Feb., 1968], No. 5952/68. Addition to 901,032. Heading F4G. A method of obtaining dry pellets from a dough comprising an insoluble particulate material comprising a substantial proportion of non-clay material, and having a modulus of rupture of at least 20 lbs/inch<SP>2</SP>, comprises sub - dividing the dough into pellets before or after passing it into a fluidized bed chamber which already contains pellets of the same particulate material, and drying the pellets by an upward stream of hot gas. The method of calculating the modulus of rupture is described. The material may be fine coal, coal waste, a raw mix used in glass manufacture, a frit or pigment for treating ceramic articles, a product of a flotation process for concentrating fluorspar or feldspar, a metallic oxide, a fertilizer or an animal foodstuff. The pelletizing and drying operations may be carried out as described in Specification 942,576 and parent Specification.
