125,277. Wade, H., (Cowan, J. H.). June 14, 1918. Hair-cutting appliances of safety-razor type; razors, safety. A device adapted for trimming hair and for shaving comprises toothed combplates A, C, Figs. 2, 3, and 7, embracing a cutting-blade D. A V-shaped guard B receives a clamping-screw E, which passes through circular holes 5, 9 in the parts C, D and through a slot 3 in the plate A. The guard B is formed with side wings 4<c> embracing the parts A, D, C and with projections 4<d>, which engage in correspondingly. shaped holes in the parts C. D and in slots 3<a> in the part A. The upper part A<1> of the plate A constitutes a handle. When the device is used as a safety razor, the clamping-screw E is replaced by a handle 12, Fig. 8, having a screwed portion 11<b>, the comb-plate C being omitted if a close shave is desired. For stropping the blade D or for enabling it to be used without a guard for shaving purposes, it is placed between plates 14, 15, Fig. 8, which are hinged together at 16 and are arranged to be locked in their closed condition by the pointed end of the screwed portion 11<b>. The plate 14 has projections 18 engaging in slots in the blade D, and the plate 15 has depressions to receive the projections 18.
