1,252,557. Variable-speed gearing. TATRA, NARODNI PODNIK. 11 March, 1970 [20 March, 1969], No. 11649/70. Heading F2D. Two reduced ratios forward, direct and reverse drive are provided in a motor-vehicle change-speed gear comprising two sun-ring- planet trains in series, drive being effected through the ring 5 of the input train the sun 7 of which is connected by an overrunning clutch 12 to the sun 10 of the output train and additionally is connected to two clutches 3, 4, and the planet carrier 8 of which is stationed by a brake 2 for reverse and connected with the clutch 3 and the ring 13 of the output train, the sun 10 of the output train being connected to the clutch 4 and a brake 1 for forward drive, the planet carrier 11 forming the output drive member. First ratio.-Brake 1 engaged holding sun 10, the overrunning clutch 12 holding sun 7, drive from ring 5, planets 6 carrier 8 and ring 13 to planets and output carrier 9, 11. Second ratio.-Brake 1 still engaged holding sun 10 and clutch 3 engaged to connect carrier 8 with sun 7 which now overruns at 12, drive from ring 5 direct via carrier and ring 8, 13 to planets and output carrier 9, 11. Third (direct) ratio.-Brake 1 released and both clutches 3, 4 engaged to provide direct lock-up drive. Reverse.-Brake 2 engaged holding carrier 8, and clutch 4 engaged connecting suns 7 and 10, drive from ring 5 via planets 6 on stationary carrier 8, through connected suns 7, 10 to planets and output carrier 11, the planets 9 engaging the ring 13 of the stationary carrier 8 to reversely drive the output carrier 11.
