Abstract
1,252,372. Aircraft instrument. VEREINIGTE FLUGTECHNISCHE WERKEFOKKER G.m.b.H. 3 Feb., 1969, No. 5755/69. Heading B7W. An aircraft instrument 1 for indicating the landing approach of a vertically landing aircraft has a fixed aircraft symbol 2 and a landing point symbol 3 which is movable relative to the aircraft symbol 2 in accordance with the distance and direction of the aircraft from the landing point and may also be moved additionally by switching in a control responsive to the ground speed of the craft, and two guide lines 4A, 4B which may be set relative to the landing point to indicate the limits of the approach path. The centre dial of the instrument is a cathode ray tube with the landing point symbol 3, concentric distance rings 5, guide lines 4A, 4B and a rateof-descent-indicating pointer 15 all formed by light marks produced on the screen by electron beams. The landing point symbol and the aircraft symbol coincide only when the aircraft is directly above the landing point. The distance of the aircraft from the landing point is read off additionally on a digital indicator 6 and the distance scale is changed at least twice during the approach by knob 7. Around the cathode ray tube is the course dial in the form of a ring scale connected to the aircraft compass 18. Arrow 10 indicates the wind direction and is adjustable by knob 11. A radar altimeter 12 is connected to show the aircraft altitude at a window 13 and light a signal lamp 14 when the altitude is below a certain value. The altimeter also controls the pointer 15.
