Abstract
1321211 Aircraft attitude indicating instrument SUNDSTRAND DATA CONTROL Inc 1 March 1972 [12 March 1971] 9656/72 Heading B7W An aircraft instrument comprises a display panel 24 whereon is indicated by means of a first indicium 26 the attitude of the aircraft relative to an attitude reference 27, and by means of second indicia 30, 32 the attitude predicted for the aircraft as a result of movement of a pilotoperable control element 21, the second indicia being positioned in response to a signal obtained by combining a signal representing change in position of the element 21 and a signal representing rate of change of aircraft attitude. Thus overcontrol may be avoided, the control element 21 being operated in such a way that the pointers 31, 32 are maintained at the desired point on the scale on ring 30. The instrument is particularly intended for a helicopter, and may indicate roll attitude, Fig. 2, pitch attitude, or both, Fig. 5 (not shown). The attitude reference 27 may be part of a gyro 28 or may be driven by a gyro-controlled servo system. In an alternative embodiment the various symbols may be generated and displayed on a cathode ray tube.
