In a multistage switching network comprising a plurality of subsections each having their own control circuits, a plurality of path finders are provided for the whole network any one of which path finders can be seized for use by the control circuits of the inlet and outlet subsections pertaining to a call. Obviously simultaneous calls in different pairs of subsections can be handled without the possibility of double connections arising. The inlet and outlet subsections are connectible in respective selector switches to the path finders. The latter are of the " long-reach " type disclosed in Specifications 1,029,051 (memory map) or 897,677 (guide wire simulating network), the last being modified slightly as in 897,676 when, for a certain destination, outlets are available in a plurality of subsections. The control circuits comprise devices for monitoring the inlets and outlets and for receiving destination data and also devices for setting-up a chosen path. The latter devices are always provided on a per subsidiary network basis although the other mentioned devices may be combined into a single circuit for all the inlets and into another circuit for all the outlets.
