Abstract

1,251,098. Printing apparatus. H-C INDUSTRIES Inc. 14 Nov., 1969 [15 Nov., 1968], No. 55901/69. Heading B6C. In order to distinguish the contents of one batch of bottles from another the bottle caps are printed over the normal design with a transparent invisible ultraviolet based ink which glows when illuminated by a suitable lamp. In the apparatus shown, which may also be applied to the tops and sides of cans, the bottles 12, Fig. 5, are passed successively at a continuous uniform speed beneath a printing wheel 20, ultraviolet detector 52 and a heat drier 54. The printing wheel 20 is mounted in a framework having a base 32, Fig. 3, which may be moved axially of the bottles and/or transversely of the tops 11 in the axial direction of the wheel 20. The ultraviolet ink is supplied by a ductor roller 22 via a motor driven transfer roller 26.
