Abstract

1,250,951. Rolling mill train. MOELLER & NEUMANN G.m.b.H. 13 Jan., 1969 [11 Jan., 1968], No. 1979/69. Heading B3M. In a continuous rolling mill train for making rod or wire comprising a single core roughing group 1, one or more finishing groups 8, 8a and an intermediate group 2-7, 2a-7a with loop tables 10, 10a, 11, 11a mounted in front of each finishing group the roughing group is operated at a higher speed than is required for continuous rolling and the excess material is taken up by growing loops, the temperature of the first half of a length of rod or wire delivered to a loop table being lowered by means of a cooling device 14 placed in front of the looping tables 10, 10a. When two or more finishing groups are employed a shear 13 and a switching device 12 are placed behind the cooling device for switching lengths of rod or wire to alternate loop cables. The device is intended for producing rod or wire of special steels and in particular when steels which are mounted to looping are being worked the roughing group is operated at the speed sufficient to supply one finishing group and the rough-rolled stock passes over troughs 15 or 15a to the intermediate group 4-7 or 4a-7a. An H-V arrangement is used for the roughing group 1.
