Abstract

1,250,317. Sulphates. GOSUDARSTVENNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNY INSTITUT OSNOVNOI KHIMII. 10 Oct., 1968, No. 48033/68. Heading C1A. In a process for the recovery of a sulphate salt from a solid or pasty raw material comprising said sulphate salt contaminated with free sulphuric acid, the acid in the said raw material is caused to react with ferrous sulphate whilst a gas containing free oxygen is fed into the reaction mixture and the mixture is maintained at a temperature from 150‹ to 300‹ C. The process is applicable to a plastic mass of ferrous sulphate, free sulphuric acid, TiO 2 , manganese sulphate and MgO, obtained by the submerged flame evaporation of the solution produced in the hydrolysis of titanium sulphates. It may be carried out in a fluidized bed, with recycle of some of the ferrous sulphate product. In examples the product is a mixture of ferrous and ferric sulphates.
