Abstract

[Also in Division B4] A device for use in cutting-out shapes from tubular fabric comprises a former having a frame 4, 5, Fig. 1, which can be inserted into a piece of tubular fabric and which is shaped to hold such fabric piece in a desired shape, and a cutting die which is supported by the frame and provided with blade portions 2, 2a facing outwardly in both directions from the surfaces of the former. The blade portions 2, 2a are reinforced by strips 3 within the frame 4, 5, the latter being provided with graduations 6 so that the position of the frame in the tubular fabric can be determined. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 intended for cutting out a girdle from a tubular piece of elasticised material, the blades 11, 12, 20, 21 and secured in a wooden frame 10 made from separate pieces clamped together by means of nuts and bolts 18, 19. The blades 20, 21 are formed with a knife edge on one edge only, the unsharpened edge being supported by a steel backing plate (22 Fig. 4) screwed to the frame. In use, the frame is inserted into a tubular piece of material and the assembly then placed in a press so that, in a single pressing operation the blades cut through both sides of the material to form a girdle blank. The waste material, which is still attached to the girdle by small uncut portions, is severed from the girdle by an operator.
