Abstract

An apparatus for slicing and cutting onions comprises a casing 1, the upper end of which forms a hopper 2 for the onions, and a rotatable drum 5, having an open face 6, and two rows of small straight lateral knives 7 and 71 on diametrically opposed generatrices, each row being followed by two transverse cutting blades 8 and 81 on the periphery of the drum. The other face 9 of the drum bears on the inner surface of the enlargement 3 of the casing and has a splined shaft 10 fastened to it, which passes through hole 11 in the enlargement and to which a crank handle (12) can be mounted to rotate the said drum in the appropriate direction. The casing, the lower forward side 13 of which is open, has a comb 14 mounted obliquely and parallel to the axis of the drum, which serves to hold the onions while allowing the passage of the knives and blades. A push member 15 for applying pressure to the onions in the hopper is provided at its base with cut out portions similar to the said comb. In an alternative embodiment the knives 7 and 71 and blades 8 and 8' can be mounted on the drum by means of small plates equipped with wedges to allow the size of the cuts to be adjusted.
