Abstract
1,249,852. Fluoridated milk. W. J. BENDALL. 4 Nov., 1968 [6 Aug., 1967; 6 Oct., 1967], Nos. 21180/67 and 45622/67. Heading A2B. Fluoridated milk, preferably containing up to two parts per million by weight of sodium fluoride, may be prepared by causing a stream of non-fluoridated milk to mix with a stream of high-concentration fluoridated milk at such flow rates that the resulting mixture contains the required fluoride concentration. A suitable apparatus for the process is shown in Fig. 1 and comprises a bulk milk tank 6 and smaller tank 10 for the high concentration fluoridated milk, the outlet of these tanks merging into a common outlet to enable the non-fluoridated and high concentration fluoridated milks to mix. An alternative apparatus (Fig. 2, not shown) comprises first and second bulk milk tanks 40 and 41 of equal capacity, first and second smaller tanks 62 and 63 of equal capacity each associated with one of the bluk tanks, the bulk tanks having common inlet and outlet. valves 45 and 52 respectively, said valves operable in such a manner. as to allow one bulk tank and smaller tank system to fill whilst the other system discharges, and vice versa. Each smaller tank has an inlet from a tank containing high concentration fluoridated milk, thus enabling milk from the appropriate bulk tank to be sufficiently diluted with the fluoride compound.
