Abstract
<PICT:0839649/III/1> In an apparatus for analysing blood and other body fluids similar to that described in Specification 774,711, the fluid to be treated and a processing liquid are segmentized by an air stream and mixed in a horizontally disposed helical coil (see Group II). As shown in Fig. 1, a proportioning pump 12 supplies blood, processing liquid and air through tubes 13, 17 and 15, respectively, to form stratified segments which then pass through the helical coil 10 to a dialyzer 18, either directly by a tube 22, or through a heater 20. In the coil the blood and processing liquid are mixed by intermingling as they pass upwardly and downwardly therethrough. The segments of air interposed between segments of mixed blood and processing liquid maintain the circuit in a clean condition to prevent contamination of any specimen by a preceding specimen.
