Abstract

1,249,457. Rolling. MORGAN CONSTRUCTION CO. 16 Feb., 1970 [22 Feb., 1969], No. 7247/70. Heading B3M. [Also in Division F2] A roller ring 2 is mounted on the end of a drive-shaft 3 by an unsplit tapered collet 1 with a self-locking cone angle α, preferably about 2¢ degrees, provision being made for securing and releasing the roller. As shown in Fig. 1, the reduced end of shaft 3 is engaged by an axial screw 11 passing through a threaded sleeve nut 10 carried by an end cap 9 of collet 1. To engage the collet, nut 11 is tightened against nut 10 with the latter held clear of shaft end 7, while to release the collet the nut 10 is tightened while bearing against the end of shaft 7. In Fig. 2 a transverse key 18 is held in place by a screw 20 in a cover 16 which can be removed to allow the attachment of a pump unit to bayonet lugs 15 on the end of collet 1<SP>1</SP> for the application of fluid pressure to engage or release the collet, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown). The contacting surfaces may be etched or mechanically roughened.
