Abstract
1,249,434. Hexagonal boron nitride. LONZAWERKE G.m.b.H. 2 April, 1970 [2 April, 1969], No. 15595/70. Addition to 1,179,156. Heading C1A. Hexagonal boron nitride is produced by mixing boric acid, boric oxide or a compound which forms boric oxide under the reaction conditions, with an organic, nitrogen-containing compound, drying the mixture at 110‹ to 350‹ C., heating in a non-oxidizing atmosphere at between 1000‹ and 1600‹ C. either in the presence of an alkaline earth metal nitride or in a vessel whose inner wall and/or base is covered with a layer of preformed hexagonal boron nitride for a period of from 5 to 90 minutes, cooling, sizereducing, treating with water, filtering and drying. The mixture may be ground before the heating step.
