Abstract

1400729 Determination of glucose DOW CHEMICAL CO 25 Oct 1972 [1 Nov 1971] 49275/72 Heading G1B A reagent composition for the colorimetric determination of glucose comprises a solution of ortho-toluidine in glacial acetic acid containing from 0.01 gram per 100 millilitres to saturation of oxalic acid, polyphosphoric acid or a mixture thereof. The composition may also contain thiourea and hydrazine. The effect of the oxalic and/or polyphosphoric acid is to prevent interference with the determination by traces of iron which may be present as impurity. In use, the composition may be used as such or the oxalic and/or polyphosphoric acid may be added to a sample after the ortho-toluidine in glacial acetic acid but before heating to develop the colour.
