Abstract
1,249,358. Centrifugal separators. HOGANAS A.B. 20 Dec., 1968 [21 Dec., 1967], No. 60810/68. Heading B2P. In a method of fractionating granular or fibrous material, the material suspended in a primary gas stream is introduced centrally into a separator chamber, a rotary motion being imparted to the gas stream as or before it enters the chamber, and a secondary stream of gas rotating in the same direction as the primary stream is supplied to the separator chamber and combines with the primary stream. In the separator shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the primary gas stream containing the suspended material is fed to the separator chamber 4 via a pipe 1 and a guiding device 2 having an annular limiting guide plate 3. The device 2 comprises a guide chamber 13 provided with spiral guides 14 and a conical roof 12 which may be axially adjustable and which may be provided on its underside with spiral guides co-acting with the guides 14. The secondary gas stream is supplied through a helical gas duct 7 opening tangentially into the separator chamber, the secondary air passing through an annular gap 26 between the chamber wall 6 and a guide plate 5 mounted on an axially adjustable outlet pipe 8 through which the primary and secondary gas streams and fine material are discharged. The coarse material is discharged via an annular gap 27 between the guide plate 3 and the chamber wall 6 into a funnel 9. In a separating system, Fig. 6, a blower 18 delivers primary and secondary air respectively via pipes 19, 20 to a separator 17. The material to be fractionated is fed at 21. A connector 22 on the pipe 20 may serve to drain the system. The air containing the fine material passes from the separator 17 into a cyclone 29 from which the air is returned to the blower 18 via a pipe 25.
