Abstract

1,248,713. Winding and reeling. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE A.G. 5 June, 1970 [6 Aug., 1969], No. 27158/70. Heading B3E. Apparatus for use in rolling mills which serves to remove coils 4 of strip from upcoilers comprises a coil car 6 carried on rails 5 and a lifting table 11 for receiving the coils, control means for operating the table and at least one feeler accommodated by or adapted to be lowered into a coil-engaging surface of the table and which operates the control means to stop the upward movement of the table when a predetermined relative position of the coil and table has been reached. The coil car has vertical guide-rods 10 slidable in bushings 9, the rods supporting the table 11 which is actuated by an hydraulic cylinder 12 (Fig. 3). The table has two coil-engaging surfaces 13 separated by a transverse groove 14 containing a spring-loaded feeler bar 15 normally standing proud of the surfaces 13. When the bar is moved into alignment with the surfaces by engagement of the table with the coil 4 the bar actuates a mechanical switch 20 to stop the elevation of the table. Alternatively a sensor or a light barrier may be provided to operate a switch. When the table stops segments 3 of the mandrel 2 are retracted and the coil is withdrawn by movement of the car 6. In a modification the table 11 is carried by a platen 21 on uprights 22 (Fig. 4, not shown). The feeler 23 is provided with brake linings 31 so that as well as actuating a control switch 20 a pneumatic cylinder 28 can be actuated to use the feeler as a brake to tighten the outermost convolution of the coil.
