Abstract
1,246,729. Fluid pressure brakes. DAVIES & METCALFE Ltd. 15 May, 1970 [24 Feb., 1969], No. 9705/69. Headings F2E and F2F. A brake actuating cylinder arrangement providing compensation for brake pad or lining wear comprises a pneumatic cylinder 9 in which moves a piston 12 under the action of compressed air supplied and exhausted through ports 10, the piston 12 having secured thereto an hydraulic cylinder 14 in which slides a piston 15 connected to the brake rod 6 and an hydraulic liquid reservoir 16 is connected to the cylinder 14 by a pipe 17 and a passageway 12b in piston 12, a one-way valve 18 closing when the brake is applied but allowing fluid to flow into the cylinder when the brakes are reset by device 19 which may be a ratchet device, a friction clutch arrangement or an hydraulic device as in Fig. 2 with a piston 20 in a cylinder 21 having a non- return valve 22.
