Abstract
1,246,479. Burning waste materials. P. WIDDIG. 17 Sept., 1968 [21 Sept., 1967], No. 44044/68. Heading F4B. Waste oils, sludges and residues from plating baths are burnt in a device comprising a first combustion chamber 10, Fig. 1, and a second combustion chamber 11 of greater volume than the first, each chamber being supplied with air under pressure. Waste oil is fed to a burner 14 at the front end of the chamber 10, and air under pressure is supplied from nozzles 18 arranged approximately in a circle. Sludges or less combustible liquids are fed through a nozzle 33 above the burner between it and the air nozzles 18. A charging shoot 35 is provided for plating residues or other materials. The combustion chamber 10 has an enlargement midway of its length, and obliquely directed air nozzles 22a, Fig. 3, direct the burning gases into the second combustion chamber 11, which has an upwardly directed step halfway along its length, and a downwardly depending lip immediately before the flue. A burner 30 below the flue completes combustion, and an opening 25 in the wall of the chamber 11 prevents explosions.
