Abstract

1,246,476. Making water tanks. SANTON Ltd. 22 Oct., 1969 [3 Sept., 1968], No. 41869/68 Heading B3A. [Also in Division F4] A method of making a domed or dished component 1 for a water heating and/or storage tank comprises locating an inner sheet 7 of copper and an outer sheet 8 of another metal in overlying relationship with one another and pressing the two sheets in their overlaid condition to form the component. After the pressing operation the sheets are separated to provide the sheet 8, which is of mild steel or stainless steel, with flanges 11 and to trim back the marginal edges of the copper sheet. While separated the sheets are provided with holes for the water inlet and outlet pipes and for bolts 9. The sheets are then reassembled and bolted to a heat exchange plate 6, sealing means being provided in the form of an asbestos gasket 10 treated with cement. Alternatively a domed component (16) is brazed or bolted to a copper cylindrical component (15) forming the body of a storage tank, Fig, 6 (not shown).
