Abstract

1,246,070. Bacteriological sampling sets. SMITH KLINE & FRENCH LABORATORIES. Aug. 4, 1970 [Aug. 7, 1969], No.37570/70. Heading C6F. A microbiological testing device includes an elongated member 24, Figs. 2, 6, 7 and 10, carrying different culture media 32 in recessed portions 26 on the two sides, slots 36, Figs. 3 and 10, for guiding the member into the container 22, and brushes 54 serving to redistribute specimen inoculum taken up at the end of the member along the body of culture media in the form of lines 68, 70 and 72. The culture media can be closely inspected during incubation without further brushing, by withdrawing the guide member 45-56 and elongated member 24 together. Small protrusions 30 assist in retaining the culture medium in position. The culture medium may, in fact, extend beyond the inner end of the elongated member, Fig. 8 (not shown). The container is made of glass or polymethylmethacrylate or polycarbonate resin, the guide member of resilient polyethylene or polypropylene. Culture media for the detection of Candida, Streptococci and Bacteruria are disclosed.
