Abstract

1290642 Microbiological testing WARNERLAMBERT CO 10 May 1971 [13 July 1970] 13936/71 Heading C6F A diagnostic preparation for the identification of the serological groups of #-haemolytic Streptococci comprises a carrier having (a) an area impregnated with glycerol, an indicator (specified) for pH 5-9 and (optionally) nutrient medium, (b) hydrophobic barrier, (c) an area impregnated with salicin, an indicator (specified) for pH 5-9 and (optionally) nutrient medium, (d) hydrophobic barrier, (e) an area impregnated with esculin and a ferric, aluminium or lead salt viz. ferric chloride, ferric ammonium citrate, ferric nitrate, ferric citrate aluminium ammonium sulphate, lead acetate or nitrate (f) hydrophobic barrier and (optionally) (g) hydrophobic barrier and dye serving as an identification means. Observations of the presence or absence of biochemical changes in the glycerol, salicin and esculin areas enables the serological identification, groups A B C D and G, of the specimen to be ascertained from the data supplied in the Specification. The active ingredients can be impregnated on any absorbent material (specified), which may then be mounted on a supporting strip of plastics material.
