Abstract

<PICT:1038589/C6-C7/1> A micro-organism sampling device for testing surfaces for the presence of micro-organisms has a culture dish 5 having a base plate 7 formed with an upstanding wall 8 and a channel-shaped cover support 9, a self-supporting agar culture medium in the dish projecting to a level above the upstanding wall 8 and a cover 6 seated on projections 10 in the channel 9. For use, the dish is grasped by its rim 11 and the culture medium is impressed against the surface to be sampled. The dish and cover may be fabricated in polystyrene, polypropylene, polyethylene or glass. The surface of the dish may be provided with suitable lines or a grid to facilitate counting of any micro-organisms propagated. Petroleum jelly or silicone resin is used for sealing the cover to the dish. Silica gel or gelatin may replace agar as the base material for the culture medium.
