Abstract

A process for producing dye images comprises either imagewise exposing to light and developing by heat or imagewise exposing to heat and fixing by uniform exposure to light a material containing in one or more layers a diazonium compound and a hydrazone compound which generates a coupler on heating and is of the formula wherein Z completes an aromatic nucleus which may be substituted and R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, allyl, aralkyl or substituted alkyl. The diazonium compound and hydrazone may be in the same layer or one of them may be encapsulated or the reactants may be separated by a heat-meltable layer as in Specification 815,005 e.g. paper support imbibed with hydrazone, resin ester layer and diazonium layer. The diazonium layer may contain a binder such as gelatine or ethyl cellulose, ascorbic, tribromoacetic, or trichloracetic acid, urea or alkyl isothiocyanate.
