Abstract

1,245,560. Decorative coatings. GAF CORP. 23 July, 1968 [3 Aug., 1967], No. 6477/71. Divided out of 1,244,332. Addition to 1,210,103. Heading D1L. A colour pattern in a sheet of textile material is produced by padding with a solution or dispersion of a dyestuff (P) which migrates from cooler to hotter areas under the action of a differential heat pattern followed by passing over a heated patterned die with one surface of the padded material in contact with the die causing the dye (P) to migrate to the hotter areas of the pattern where the surface is dried leaving the remainder of the padded material undried, the resultant padded material then being passed over a heated plain roller with the opposite surface in contact with the roller and the dye (P) which has not migrated under the influence of the patterned die is caused to migrate to the opposite surface of the padded textile material whereby the contrast between the patterned areas of the textile material is increased. The patterned die and roller are heated 300 to 1000‹F which is below the scorch temperature of the textile material. In the figure web 10 passes through bath 42 containing the migrating colour to squeeze rollers at 13 to migrating unit 48 followed by second migrating unit 58 which heats the opposite side of the material to steam unit 25 and roll 26.
