Abstract

1,245,553. Turrets for armoured vehicles. WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON-BUHRLE A.G. 30 April, 1970 [8 May, 1969], No. 20754/70. Heading F3C. An armoured turret is provided with at least one automatic firearm 2 externally thereof, the firearm being protected by armour on its side remote from the turret. Two feeding mechanisms are provided for the firearm, one for feeding ammunition stored within the turret and the other for feeding ammunition stored in the armour. In the construction shown the ammunition is stored in a central portion 6 of the armour and is of belted construction. The turret is provided with an automatic firearm at each side thereof (Fig. 2, not shown) each firearm and associated armour being movable in elevation by a rack and pinion arrangement (Fig. 1, not shown). Each firearm is mounted for sliding movement in a pair of spaced blocks, the blocks being secured on bolts which are, in turn, secured to a plate 10 (Fig. 3, not shown). Hinged covers (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) form part of the armour to allow access to the firearm and ammunition store. The armour is also provided with a channel 23 for the ejection of spent ammunition.
