[Also in Division C7] The colour stability of a starch hydrolysate, e.g. glucose syrup is improved by passing the syrup through at least one electrodialysis chamber 14 bounded at one side by a cation permselective membrane C and at the opposite side by an anion permselective membrane A under a D.C. voltage, while washing the membranes externally with an aqueous medium, e.g. in alternate compartments 24, mixing the resultant syrup, e.g. from discharge manifold 16 with activated carbon, and then removing the carbon from the syrup.
