[Also in Division B8] In an addressing machine, items to be imprinted are fed to a printing position 16 by endless belts 22, arrested at the printing position by front stops 98, and, after printing, allowed to continue for delivery to a receiving tray (42), Fig. 2 (not shown), by lifting of the stops 98. The stops 98 are keyed to a triangular section shaft 94, to which a crank-arm 102 is also keyed. The crank-arm 102 is liftable by means of a cam member (144), Fig. 6 (not shown), acted on by means associated with the printing mechanism, and acting through links 143, 134 and lifting member 132, to turn the shaft 94, thereby lifting the stops 98. The stops 98, belts 22, presser strips 24, and idler rollers 58 are laterally adjustable. The stops are adjustable longitudinally of the belts 22, a cable system (110), Fig. 4 (not shown), acting to maintain the shaft 94 perpendicular to the belts 22. The belts 22 are driven by a motor 68 through a belt 80 and a wooden roller 52, the belt being disengageable from the roller by a slide bar 88 having pins 90 engageable with the belt. The machine includes a feeding station (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), at which an adjustable side guide (12) is provided. A deflector 38, Fig. 3, urges the items to be imprinted toward the side guide as they are fed into the machine. The receiving tray (42) includes flexible strips 48 to hold the delivered items down.
