Abstract
1,244,967. Immersion heaters. J. A. KOZMA CO. 11 Oct., 1968, No. 48243/68. Heading F4B. An immersion heating apparatus for use in metal heating and treating, comprises a furnace 10 having a liquid bath 14 of the metal, a substantially U-shaped heat transfer member 46 mounted in the furnace 10 by brackets 48 and 20, and a burner assembly 16 having a gas-air ratio regulator 38. A tubular shield 53 extends downwardly from the mounting bracket 20 and concentrically into the inlet end 50 of the heat transfer member 46, the tubular shield having a diameter approximately 80% of the diameter of the inner surface of the member 46 so that an annular dead-air space 55 is formed therebetween, providing localized insulation for the heat transfer member 46. A tubular insulating liner 62 is positioned within the exhaust end 52 of the member 46 and has a length accommodating the variations in the operating level of the bath 14. The liner 62, which is preferably constructed of ceramic material, terminates short of the upper end of the discharge end 52 co-operating thereat with the transfer tube to form a socket for supporting a removable exhaust stack 66.
