Abstract
1,244,300. Mixing apparatus. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 8 July, 1970 [23 July, 1969], No. 33151/70. Heading B1C. Mixer for granular or pulverulent material consists of a container 1 with a riser in two sections 4, 5, with an annular gap between them and an air inlet 14, 10 at the bottom. The gap 6, 7 formed by the lower section 4 overlapping the upper section 6 of the riser, and stratification of the material in the container 7 reduced by material flowing through the gap 6. In operation, material enters through a pipe 22 inclined to a radius and the riser fills up to the bottom of the upper section and to a higher level outside the riser, so that air introduced at the bottom of the container finds its shortest leakage path through the riser. As the level of material drops, reverse circulation may start when the shortest air leakage path is through the material outside the riser. The air pressure required for starting may be reduced by providing a higher air inlet 16, or by closing the gap 6 by means of an inflatable ring (Fig. 2, not shown) so that the initial level in the riser is lower. The riser may have a number of annular gaps, and its sections may be adjustable in height relative to one another. The riser may be eccentrically disposed within the casing.
