[Also in Division E1] Apparatus for the underwater mining of, for example, manganese nodules includes a vessel having storage holds 42 and 35-38 for the sections of a conduit 45 and for the mined material respectively, a well 25 through which the conduit extends to the sea-bed, a travelling crane for handling the mining equipment, and a conveyer (32) to convey the mined material into the holds. A bow thruster mechanism 13 is provided for accurate control of the ship.
