Abstract
1,243,552. Polyamides. UNILEVEREMERY N.V. 20 Aug., 1968 [21 Aug., 1967], No. 39788/68. Heading C3R. A polyamide may be prepared from an acid reactant comprising (a) 50-80 equivalent per cent of a polymerized fatty acid (b) 5-30 equivalent per cent of a C 2-6 monocarboxylic acid and in addition to any monomer present in the polymerized fatty acid (c) 5-25 equivalent per cent of a C 12-22 fatty acid, branched C 4-20 monocarboxylic acid, 4,4<SP>1</SP> - bis(hydroxyaryl) pentanoic acid or hydroxyaryl unsaturated fatty acid and an amine reactant comprising (i) 50-90 equivalent per cent ethylene diamine and (ii)10-50 equivalent per cent of a cyclic or C 4-20 aliphatic diamine. The C 2-6 monocarboxylic acid may be acetic, propionic or butyric acid. The C 12-22 fatty acid may be oleic acid or tall oil fatty acid. The branched carboxylic acid may be 2-ethylhexanoic acid. The hydroxyaryl pentanoic acid may be 4,4<SP>1</SP>-bis(hydroxyphenyl) pentanoic acid. The hydroxyaryl fatty acid may be cresolated oleic acid. The acid component may also include an alkyl succinic anhydride, azeleic acid or iso- or terephthalic acid. The diamine may be hexamethylene diamine, or piperazine. The amine component may also include diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine or bis (6-aminohexyl)amine.
