Abstract

1,243,403. Dyeing textiles. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 27 May, 1969 [5 June, 1968; 12 July, 1968; 24 Oct., 1968], Nos. 26811/68; 33364/68 and 50496/68. Heading D1L. Continuous fabrics of cellulosic or polyamide material are dyed by the application, at selected points across their width, of a plurality of solutions of water-soluble reactive dyes while the fabric is moved longitudinally, the fabric being then passed through nip rollers and the dyestuffs finally fixed. The points of application may be fixed or more transversely in groups or independently. The dye may be fed continuously or intermittently. The solution may be a deliberately inhomogeneous single dye or mixed dye solution. The following application methods are disclosed; (a) feeding the solutions to the trough of a padding machine at a rate to ensure complete absorption by the fabric; (b) separate brushes, pads, jets or sprays; (c) feeding a single solution to a rotating pipe having spiral perforations; and (d) feeding the solutions down an inclined surface. Spreading may be assisted with air jets. In examples nylon, wool or cotton fabrics are treated with reactive azo, naphthalene, anthraquinone and phthalocyanine dyes and fixed conventionally.
