Abstract

124,317. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). May 3, 1918. Vacuum cleaning-apparatus.-In a vacuum cleaner operated by an electromotor, the motor switch is mounted on the motor casing directly beneath the motor and is operated by a lever pivoted adjacent the switch and projecting to the rear of the motor casing so that it is adapted to be operated by the foot of the operator. As shown, the cleaner comprises a fan and a motor in casings 5, 7, a suction nozzle 6, a pivoted handle 9, and a dust-bag 8, the whole mounted on two front rollers 10 and a rear roller 11 carried by a frame 12. The switch 13 is secured by lugs 17 to the bottom of the casing 7 and is closed and opened by pushing in buttons 14, 15 respectively. The buttons are operated by ears 22 on the forked end 21 of a lever 19 pivoted at 20 to the casing 7 and having its rear end 24 projecting through an opening in the frame 12 so that it can be engaged by the foot of the operator. The end 24 has preferably coverings 25 of rubber, &c., and these may be distinguished, for example, by one being black and the other red.
