Abstract

1,242,448. Treating textiles. PENNSALT CHEMICALS CORP. 23 Aug., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967], No. 40490/68. Heading D1P. [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Fabrics and other fibrous substrates, e.g. leather, paper, hemp and wood, are rendered stain repellent by impregnation with compounds of the general formula wherein R f is a C 4-15 perfluoroalkyl radical, R is H, a C 1-6 alkyl radical, a cycloalkyl radical or group of the formula x is an integer from 1 to 100, R' is a C 2-6 alkylene radical, and Y and Z are separately H or -CH 2 OR<SP>2</SP> wherein R<SP>2</SP> is H, C 1-6 alkyl or cycloalkyl. The compounds may be applied to the substrate by contact with an aqueous or organic solution or dispersion of the compound, suitably by padding. The pad bath preferably contains a curing agent to promote the fixation of the compound to the fabric. The pad bath may also have other additives, e.g. durable press agents, optical brighteners, stiffeners, softeners, abrasion protectors, biocides or biostats.
