Abstract

1,242,292. Wine presses. WALKER DESMOND & SONS Ltd. 5 March 1970 [18 April, 1969], No. 19919/69. Heading BID. [Also in Division A4] A wine press consists of a cylindrical, perforate body 14 mounted on a base tray 10 by means of hollow bolts 16 welded to the lower end of the body 14 and nuts 18, and a long screw 28 which co-operates with a threaded hole 27 in a cross member 24 and engages a thimble 31 in a tapered pressure member 30. Produce to be pressed is contained in a porous bay 33. Cross member 24 engages diametrically opposed rectangular openings 23 adjacent the top of the body 14, in which it is located by abutment screws 26 when the press is in operation. The screw 28 may be removed for loading when the pressure is off by joggling the member 24 from its mounting. The pressure member 30 may then be removed by means of the hook 32. The hollow bolts may contain rubber or plastic grommets 20 or may engage headless screws (36) set in a bench or table top (35) (Fig. 3, not shown). An alternative means of securing the apparatus comprises a plurality of angled retainers set on a surface under which the tray 10 may be slid and thus engaged. The tray 10 has upstanding flanges 12 with an opening 13 for the removal of extracted juice. A pressure distributor disc similar to the pressure member 30 may be provided in the bottom of the body 14. The construction may be principally of metal or materials such as tough and/or reinforced plastics may be used. Metal components of the apparatus may be coated in a plastics material (34).
