Abstract
1,241,739. Controlled atmosphere heattreatment. CENTRE NATIONAL DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES. Dec. 11, 1969 [Dec. 16, 1968], No.60564/69. Heading C7N. Metals are heat-treated in a reducing or neutral atmosphere which is brought into contact with an alloy, particularly a ferro-alloy, the major proportion of which consists of one or more of the following elements; Zr, Ti, Ca, Si, Al, Ba, U, Mg, Sr, Li, or Th. Preferably the alloy is placed in a secondary enclosure through which the gas passes to the main enclosure; the former enclosure may be maintained at the optimum temperature for de-oxidizing the gas. Additionally the gas may be rapidly cooled before introduction to the enclosure, to remove water vapour, and may also be passed through a molecular sieve.
