Abstract

1,241,703. Tubular reactor for exothermic and endothermic reactions. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 5 Sept., 1968 [6 Sept., 1967; 23 Sept., 1967], No. 42273/68. Heading B1X. A tubular reactor for carrying out exothermic and endothermic reactions with forced circulation comprises a nest 1 of tubes filled with catalyst enclosed in a casing 2 of a heat exchanger fitted with upper and lower plates 11 and 8 respectively. The heat exchanger has an external cooler 3 for the heat transfer medium and a conveying means 3a for forcing the heat transfer medium through a circular line 4, extending around the outside of the casing of the heat exchanger, through openings 9 spaced uniformly around the casing 2 and through a plurality of orifices 10 in guide plate 5, said orifices being of such dimensions that the heat transfer medium flows at an equal velocity over the entire cross-section of the nest of tubes 1. The heat transfer medium passes through the orifices 10 in guide plate 6, through openings 12 in the casing 2 into the upper circular line 7 and thence to the cooler 3. In an alternative embodiment (see Fig. 5) the space between guide plates 5 and 6 contains further, preferably parallel, guide plates 5, 5', 6 and 6', having orifices 10' and 10", said orifices preferably being of the same area and shape as the orifices 10. The orifices 10, 10' and 10" may surround individual tubes of the nest of tubes or completely surround two or more adjacent tubes as a group.
