Abstract

1,241,413. Pipes. ATOMIC POWER CONSTRUCTIONS Ltd. 16 July, 1968 [18 July, 1967; 8 May, 1968], Nos. 33024/67 and 21799/68. Heading F2P. Air ducting for heating, ventilating and airconditioning systems &c., is made of resinbonded moulded fibre. The ducting is made in a range of sizes which fit together in parallel, if necessary. These ducts are formed by bending from resin-bonded fibre board, Fig. 1, having notches 2 for folding to form ducts, Fig. 3, having projecting flanges secured by gluing, stapling &c. Lengths of ducting are joined by slipping over a metal connector (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) or a moulded connector (Fig. 7, not shown). This connector may be angled (Fig. 8, not shown). In a modified form, Fig. 10, a flat sheet having four folding lines 2 and rebated overlaps 6, 7 may be used. It is described how duct-sizes which are multiples of the smallest size may be used in parallel to provide a continuous range of flow areas. This principle of compounding is used to branch from the main ducting, as shown in Fig. 16. A large ducting D is connected by connector 4 to several smaller ducts compounded together, one, 8, being branched off. The duct-wall may be of double thickness. The fibre used, may be of wood, coconut, sugar-cane, asbestos, glass or calcium silicate, and the resin may be lignin or urea formaldehyde or epoxy resin. The mouldings may be made fire-resistant by painting or impregnating with suitable materials.
