Abstract
1,240,702. Cutting apparatus. WALKER & SMITH (BATLEY) Ltd. 30 Sept., 1969 [8 July, 1968], No. 32431/68. Heading B4B. [Also in Division A4] A cutting apparatus for cutting material, e.g. textile yarns or foodstuffs comprises a blade 1 having an annular cutting edge 2 through which the material is fed and at least one rotary blade 6 adapted to sweep across the face 3 of the blade 1 to sever the material as it passes through the annular blade. The blade 1 is in the form of a ring mounted in a carrier so that the plane of the cutting edge 2 is inclined to the vertical. The rotary blade 6 has a straight or curved cutting edge and may be flexible so that in co-operation with the inclined cutting edge 6 a self-sharpening effect is produced; the selfsharpening action can be improved by arranging the annular cutter to have a slow rotation. The textile yam may be fed through the blade 1 via feed rollers, the cut-off pieces passing through a delivery duct 12; an induced draught may be provided for facilitating movement of the pieces through the duct. A second blade 6 may be mounted on the other of the rotary axis. Also two or more annular blades may be provided with one or more sweep blades.
