Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A horizontal table 2 is vibrated vertically, while being maintained parallel to its original plane by guide means 7, by vibration generating means comprising at least one flexible drive-rod 6 formed of two aligned parts 10, 13 connected together, the part 10 being rigid, with its outer end journalled on an eccentric crank-pin 11 of a drive-shaft 12, and the part 13 being flexible with its outer end embedded in structure 14 connected to the table 2. As shown, two spaced apart rods 6 lie in a plane of symmetry of the table 2. The member 14 of one is guided by parallel flexible blades 25, 26 rigidly secured to the member 14 and to a support beam 24. The member 14 of the other is guided by a flexible rod 27. To allow small adjustments to the slight tilt of the table 2, a rod 17 is clamped between the member 14 and a block 18 welded to the table at 22. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the table is supported and vibrated by four rods 6 set at the corners of a rectangle, the members 14 being secured directly to the table. The vibrating table is used in cooling or drying apparatus as the base for a fluidized bed of particulate solid material (see Division F4).
